Europe 2012: Day 02 (Iceland 02): Oct 19

After sleeping about 4 hours I couldn’t sleep anymore. Woke up around 9 EST, 1am whatever our current timezone is… And back to sleep to wake up for 8ish.

So our excursion this morning was to hike within the Snæfellsjokull National Park. We picked out a couple hiking trails and went on our way. Heh, I’m not sure what else I can say about them… It was a good hike, nice scenic views and a cool waterfall. From one angle the mountain top looked like a natural coliseum or castle top and the frozen waterfall created the moat. Refreshing. Hiked to Rauðhóll, Klukkufoss waterfall, and.. around.

After walking, jumping, and hiking for about 4 hours it was time to go! Back to Reykjavik. 3 hour drive… Ugh. Apparently the underground tunnel we drove through yesterday is actually going underwater… According to Karen. Aaaaaaaand then I got a ticket. Speeding. *sigh… Clocked at 118 on these stupid empty roads marked 90. I guess that’s fine. I was going 134 earlier that ride. Oops? Yea. Expensive. Don’t speed in Iceland. Was cheaper speeding in New Zealand. At least I was able to pay immediately and saved 25% – -;… Ugh. Wanna guess how much? 37,500kr with the ‘discount’ from 50,000kr. *sigh

Back through the underwater tunnel. Everyone’s awake this time. 6km.

Arrived at the hostel around 6, “Our house”. Interesting decor. Dinner time! Headed to Kaffi Loki, named after the Nordic god, close to our hostel. Nice place w good photos for their menu 😛 Trying some Icelandic dishes, sheep-head jelly, shark meat, rye bread ice cream… Not bad. Meh.. The shark meat tasted quite familiar. Strong aftertaste. The rye bread ice cream was pretty good though.

Walked around a bit afterwards, found some random Asian food places. Noodle bar, sushi, Vietnamese… Hm. Ended up in a small dessert place and had some hot Nutella chocolate 🙂

Tomorrow Hannah will be joining us and we will be exploring the city during the day… I think. We’ll see.

Klukkufoss Waterfall’s freezing water, Hreggnasi (Klukkufoss flowing around it), somewhere around Klukkofoss and Hreggnasi (can you see Michelle and Karen :P?), Sunset driving back to Reykjavik, Rye Bread Ice Cream
